A device can't save to the computer. USB is only used for debugging.

The good news is that you are using one of GHI premium devices, which does exposing the USB as a mass storage device. Your PC will thin your spider is a memory card reader. This is a rather advance topic so if you are new, then try other things till you are comfortable. Here is a tutorial about this http://ghielectronics.com/docs/20/usb-client

I'm new to gadgeteering and I have some trouble with a simple camera project.

I use a fezSpider, camera 1.1 module and USB DP client.

I would like to save the picture taken by the camera to the computer.
I've seen an example file of how to save a picture to the SD-storage of Gadgeteer but can't find any that saves to computer.
Can anyone provide me with an example of saving a file to computer through the DP client module?

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions! I'm happy to write this following release today of .NET Gadgeteer core 2.42.700, found on the downloads page. This provides VS 2012 support, alpha support for NETMF 4.3, and some other fun features.

I think you have a misconception here. While this CodePlex repository includes code for manufacturers' hardware as well as the Core libraries, not all of that code goes into the release MSIs. The Core MSI takes code only from the GadgeteerCore directory. The other directories contain code and designs relevant to individual manufacturer's installers and hardware, but updates to that are decoupled from Core updates. That said, we do collaborate closely with manufacturers when changing GadgeteerCore, so that we can make sure new features as broadly useful as possible. You're also right that we use an internal source control site to do day-to-day development, and only upload to CodePlex when we have a release ready version.

Today there might not be a lot of manufacturers but it already seems an issue. What if there are more manufacturers?

PS: If you're waiting on Love Electronics, I don't know if you'll ever get response. Seems like Love Electronics is done. No updates on site, facebook, twitter, etc + forum has been down for months.

It has been a very slow progress towards releasing a Gadgeteer SDK compatible with .NET Micro Framework (NETMF) 4.3. Although, the NETMF 4.3 was released December 4, 2012, no signs of any project activity or support for this framework are currently showing inside any of the source code files for the .NET Gadgeteer SDK (unless such work is done external of codeplex).

One reason of this (I am guessing) is that the Gadgeteer SDK requires contribution from more than one manufacturer (i.e. GHI Electronics, MSR, Seeed, SytechDesigns). It is only when all code from these manufacturers are incorporated, the SDK for the Gadgeteer can then be released. Therefore, I would suggest breaking the link between the Gadgeteer Core and the implementation of manufacturers Modules, Mainboards and Kits into different projects such that the core team concentrate more on releasing the framework independent of any manufacturer. Manufacturers, therefore, can have their own project schedule and can then decide when to release their support for the core framework.

What do you think guys? If you support this idea please share your support below. If otherwise, may you share with us your thoughts and opinion too please?

I am a newbie to the electronic objects.

I am looking for a device that can act like a USB drive.
A computer can write a file into it.
At the same time, the device can read the file and send the incoming data out via 3G.

I know there is 3G/GPRS shield for Arduino, so I guess I can send file through 3G using this combination.

Can FEZ Spider does this?

Can anyone help me?

The manufacturers are evaluating a closed beta release right now and we hope to ship Visual Studio 2012 support in the next few weeks, adding the full .NET Micro Framework 4.3 support a few months later.

Gadgeteer is meant to be used with NETMF (C#/VB) devices. Gadgeteer is the way mainboard (processor) connect to modules (sensors) so unless your system use the same socket, gadgeteer is not what you need. Maybe NETMF itself if your have a decent micro.

That said, GHI is working on something that maybe what you need. Ping us back in few weeks.

I am basically a firmware developer. I will do coding for 8/16/32 bit Microcontroller from Atmel, Microchip and TI. Recently i heard about this gadgeteer. I gone through the manual but stuck with more questions.
Is it possible to compile code for the microcontrollers using this gadgeteer? If so how could i set the register of these controllers. Do i have to include the header file with this C#.

or can i make a standalone software with front end application with this gaddeteer for my microcontrollers..
Could any one make me clear.

I'm trying to create a module and have gone through all the steps and debug testing as outlined on the Module Builder's guide, but when I try to create a release no installer files are generated. I've using the following:

Microsoft .NET Micro Framework v4.2

Microsoft Visual C# 2010

Wix Toolset 3.5 has been installed

After build, the bin\Release folder contains the following:

be folder
le folder
.dll file
.pdb file
.XML file
but no installer files

Any suggestions?
